I'm running for re-election because public education is a cornerstone of our three communities and part of the foundation upon which our children build their lives. It is well known that we have one of the top school districts in Canada, and I hope to be part of keeping it that way.
As a trustee, I will always be focussed on advocating for more funding for West Vancouver schools. Our children deserve an excellent school experience full of opportunities that prepare them well for the paths they choose in life. I cannot overstate how important this is to me—especially with an increasingly competitive post-secondary environment and globalized job market.
My husband Chuck and I raised our three sons in Whytecliff on the western edge of our municipality where they attended Gleneagles Ch’axáý and Rockridge. I have been a committed, active and engaged advocate for public education for many years. My father was a school trustee, and education continues to be of paramount importance in my family. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Simon Fraser University and worked in the insurance industry for many years.
In addition to my work as a trustee and volunteer in the public education system, I have been very active in the community life of West Vancouver. Prior to becoming a trustee, I was the District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) Chair and Rockridge PAC Co-Chair, and I have been a coach, coordinator, and director of multiple youth sports boards and liaison to many municipal groups. We live in a special place and I currently support local heritage by serving as director of the West Vancouver Historical Society.
As a trustee I promise to serve the communities of West Vancouver, Bowen Island, and Lions Bay with integrity, dedication and enthusiasm, and continue to uphold the tradition of excellence in public education in West Vancouver schools.
